Hot Tip - Vancouver Fashion Week

Vancouver Fashion Week is now globally the fifth largest Fashion Week - right behind Milan - and the Spring/Summer 2016 season will take place from September 28th to October 4th.  VFW will open its doors to designers, media, buyers and agents to explore and discover seven days of ready-to-wear from around the globe.

Supported by the Prime Minister of Canada and the Mayor of Vancouver, Vancouver Fashion Week is widely recognised as a global platform for both established and emerging designers, founded by producer, Jamal Abdourahman in 2001, the principal Canadian Fashion Week is lauded worldwide as the fastest growing Fashion Week and the only industry event that actively seeks to showcase international award-winning talent alongside its homegrown designers and emerging talent.  VFW brings together important partnerships from around the world and its own influential local community, who along with VFW, are committed to fostering the growth of the fashion industry and celebrating the arts - exciting times right?

Sure, commercial Fashion Month is aces.  In fact, twice a year it’s the absolute highlight of my calendar but looking outside of the box at smaller Fashion Weeks is exciting too and this one in particular is growing at a rapid pace.  With SS16 on the horizon there’s a real industry buzz about what to expect from Canada’s homegrown talent this VFW, known as an incubator for international innovation and talent, SS16 will be VFW’s 26th season and they’re some pretty great credentials.

This season, VFW has partnered with The Metro Show, a platform that has over 130 apparel and footwear agencies and retail-related businesses.  (The Metro Show is a Canadian Association of Wholesale Sales Representatives affiliated show)

Known internationally as the ‘Gateway to Global Fashion,’ Vancouver Fashion Week, held in the capital of Canada’s most creative and international province, is a true gateway to Asian markets.  It’s a Fashion Week that gets the buyers in a tizzy and relatively commercially unspoiled, it’s one which allows show-goers to concentrate on the garments.  The platform is charged with supporting innovative, cutting edge talent from around the world and the stage has been shared with some of the heavyweights.  Versace, Anna Sui and Roca Wear have appeared on VFW’s catwalks alongside edited selections of mature to developing designers.

So, if you’re streaming, social media stalking, reading my posts (obvs.) or even lucky enough to be attending Fashion Month, then don’t forget about Vancouver Fashion Week.  it may be small, but it’s definitely mighty and while all eyes will be on Paris and the major players, make sure you check out Persicope for updates on VFW too - you can thank me later….

Service Interruption

We interrupt this broadcast to bring you…… err, well nothing actually.

It’s been 39 days since I switched over to BT for their super-fast Infinity broadband service and I’m still waiting for a service which I can use reliably to write.  Yes Voyeurs, it’s driving me freaking crazy but according to BT, it’s a non issue.  I’m informed that because the service has been available for approximately <10% of the time and there hasn’t been a total loss of service that they’re fulfilling their contractual obligations.

I’m all out, I’ve got nothing.

Except this - BT, If you want to take me on then bring it, and bring it good because I’m a freaking aces fighter and I’d love to take you on….

A New Home For London Fashion Week

With Fashion Month right around the corner the eyes of the Fashion World will be on London for more than just the Spring / Summer 2016 trends.  That’s right folks, London Fashion Week has a new home.  As we know, Somerset House has been the home of #LFW since 2009 and after twelve hectic seasons and countless street stylers pounding the pavements of the square, man those cobbles could talk, but now it’s time for something fresh and new.

Spring / Summer 2016 is all about change and we’ll see the BFC bring to fruition what they’ve promised us for years - a Fashion Week hosted entirely in the West End.  The new collections will make their debut at Brewer Street Car Park in Soho.  Previously used for fringe shows and events by the likes of Henry Holland, Richard Nicoll and Antonio Berardi, the Spring / Summer 2016 show schedule will see Anthony Vaccarello showcasing his Versus #SS16 collection as part of the #LFW line up for the first time.  Perhaps the most exciting debut however, will come from Emma Hill, former Creative Director at Mulberry and credited with bringing Mulberry into the mainstream, Hill will showcase her first and hotly anticipated accessories line, Hill & Friends.

Other newcomers to the #LFW schedule include John Smedley, Amanda Wakeley (hot on the heels of her static presentation for Fall / Winter 2015), Kelly Shaw London and Toga.

London Fashion Week Spring / Summer 2016 runs from September 18th - 23rd and I’ll be there to bring you the latest looks phresh out the runway.  With the most jam-packed (draft) schedule #LFW has seen in recent years and the West End as the venue, it looks set to be killer:

Although the main event is invite only, there are still tickets available for popular fringe event London Fashion Weekend and if you’ve never been before, it’s a great way to get involved.  So, what are you waiting for…..?

Glitch in the Matrix

34 days later and still no broadband, yep, BT have really done a number on me - just wait ’til they get my invoice; in the meantime here’s a quick update on the goings on here at Fashion Voyeur HQ:

I walked in the Liberty runway show as an actual model in London last week which was amazing and surreal in equal measures and I was actively pursued to do it - pretty cool, right?!

I took part in Screenage Kicks’ The Warriors immersive cinema event as part of a roller skating gang - super cool until after the event when I took things a little too far by challenging my Roller Derby Husband to a down hill slalom and majorly stacking it on a ginormous hill bruising my butt and arm real bad, trust me, not a pretty sight.  And……….. I had bangs cut in.  Ok that last one’s a lie, I did not have bangs cut and seriously, if I ever suggest it I’m to be talked out of it for good reason….

On the horizon: I’ve got some super cool collaborations coming up and have even been asked to do some more of this modelling lark so stay tuned for pictures from upcoming shoots (yes plural!) if I ever get back online….

So there it is, a whistle-stop round up of the most note-worthy happenings in my life, short and sweet, the complete opposite of myself.  I promise to tell you more as soon as BT get their finger out….

P.S. BT you suck big time and I’m coming for you, with my serious face on….
