Beyonce Launches Ivy Park Active Wear

There has been talk of a Beyonce x TopShop athleisure brand for a little over two years now and so far that’s all it’s been, talk.  Until now…..

In typical Beyonce style, Queen Bey herself dropped a moody black and white promo for her new line Ivy Park, calling it “effortless active wear” with no prior announcement.  The 200 piece collection is a 50/50 joint venture with Sir Philip Green under their collaborative new brand Parkwood TopShop Athletic Ltd., however it will be stocked in a range of outlets rather than just Topshop as originally thought.

“This is not a collaboration. This is about building a brand and building a business - a separate, proper business, with separate overhead and a separate office, when she was in London in February we arranged to get together. We started talking generally, about doing something together. We’ve been looking at that [athletic] sector for a while. It’s something we need to be in. Based on what she does, how she works out, the conversation got into that category. We started getting into a proper conversation in May or June, as to how it would work. It took six or eight weeks to put a deal together. On Friday, Beyoncé came to our office for the last piece of the jigsaw puzzle.”  Sir Philip Green

Green also confirmed that the business will be run and managed sadly not by Beyonce but by a hired in Creative Director and two Designers from both fashion and sports related backgrounds in order to get the mix of high fashion and performance sportswear “just right”.

Let’s not forget that this is not Beyonce’s first foray into fashion, her House of Dereon line folded in 2012 following poor reception.

In the promo Beyonce talks about going back to “The Park” in a bid to inspire young fans into fitness and there’s no better advert for that than Beyonce right?  Shame she did it in wedge heel sneakers and a face full of make up #JustSaying.

The collection is strong, backless & sleeveless hoodies, over the top logo-ing akin to that of nineties active wear, and bold colours provide a highlight to a pallete of mostly black and grey (the best colours for sportswear).  These are designs you’ll want to wear and you’ll want to show them off but being part of Bey’s squad will hit you in the wallet, with prices starting at £14 for a hairband and reaching a whopping £200.  Bey has emphasised that the collection has a focus on high fashion as this “matters most to fans”.

Think mesh bodysuits, thigh high socks, made to be seen sportsbras and “flip-to-low-rise” leggings, all emblazoned with the brand name, incase you forget it.

The collection is definitely lust-worthy and uber covetable, there’s no word yet on how frequently collections will be produced and re-stocked and whether it will be exclusive in that once it’s gone, it’s gone.  Either way, if you are lucky enough to snap up anything from the first Ivy Park drop on April 14th, you’re likely to bump into another 14 or so Ivy Park clones the next day in the gym. And maybe I’ll be one of them…..

Ivy Park Collection 1 is available to buy at TopShop, net-a-porter and Zalando from April 16th.

Hoppy Easter Voyeurs

Well #Voyeurs, Easter is upon us.  The time where we stuff our faces with chocolate eggs and then hate ourselves for at least three weeks after - well, that’s what I do anyway.

If ever there was a time to share Kate Moss’ picture set for the 60th anniversary edition of Playboy then Easter is surely it, you know, bunnies, ears, fluffy tail etc. there’s a tenuous link there somewhere.

So while you’re eating yourself into a chocolate induced coma, feast your eyes on these glorious images of Miss Moss doing what she does best - you’re welcome.

Don’t choke on your chocolate now will you…..

Barre Bank Holiday Treat

#NEFollowers and Fitness Fanatics rejoice…..!

Not tried The Barre Workout yet?  Well I’ve been preaching about it for long enough but now might be your best opportunity yet….

You know by now that the Barre method strips back the mechanics of precise ballet movements using them as part of a strict workout regime in order to condition your muscles and force them into an intense, long lasting burn.  In English?  Long. Lasting. Calorie. Burn.  All day long in fact.  By forcing the quad muscles to take the brunt of the movement during long plie sets, the body goes into calorie burn mode for long after you’ve left class.

It’s not just plies that you’ll bust out in this all over body workout, you’ll isolate the twitch muscles all over your entire body and learn to contract and control them, the result?  A tighter, toned and more lean body, just like that of a dancer, but you don’t even have to lace up a Bloch pointe shoe.

If you’re brand new to the Barre method then you’ll want to try 1st Barre, pitched at total beginners, the class is slow and targeted and your instructor takes time to ensure that each person is set up correctly before beginning, you’ll find that you’re in a small class with other beginners too so there’s none of that first day at the gym intimidation. Bonus.

So, if you’re enticed, or just intrigued, there’s never been a better time for you to dip your pointed toe in the water, The Barre are offering an Easter weekend discount of 15% off the cost of any class, package or 1:1 class purchased between today and Easter Monday, simply visit the Barre website and use the code BHFlash when prompted.

You can thank me when the shakes have subsided…..

Waxology: The Science of Waxing

You know by now Voyeurs that I’m a bit of a connoisseur when it comes to intimate waxing, it’s probably top of my agenda when it comes to waxing treatments and good waxers are hard to come by.

you’ll know from previous posts that I’ve lived between Newcastle and London for a number of years and have found a select few very good, very reliable waxers who specialise in the “Hollywood” - that’s everything off down there for intimate wax virgins - and these expert waxers should be top of your emergency contact list, right above your partner and / or mother.

Waxologist Frances Nixon has practised out of a converted room in her home in County Durham for a few years before deciding that it was time to branch out and bring her services further North, enter Waxology.  Frances has set up shop on Saville Street, Newcastle, The discreet entrance provides the perfect cover for “shy waxers” and the period art deco staircase is a pleasant surprise as you enter the building; the Waxology room is clean and bright and Frances takes all clients through a pre-treatment questionnaire to check for any contra-indications, to say she’s thorough is an understatement.  She talks through the treatment and shows me to a room where Im asked to go through the standard procedure before a Hollywood Wax, yes Voyeurs, this procedure is done panties off and it’s a breeze, way more pleasant than a visit to the Gynaecologist and the room smells amazing so we’re already streets ahead in the points stakes.

Frances chats through what she’s doing as she works, she tells me that she prefers to use Waxperts Hot Wax than the more widely known and used, Lycon Wax.  She tells me she’s involved her regular clients in testing and found that this product is less painful, faster to use and more economical as less is used, making it cheaper for you, the customer.

The premise is simple, skin is prepped with oil and the hot wax only clings to the hair, shrink wrapping around it to remove hair, but not skin.  The wax itself is painless, I’ve been having this treatment now for a million years and I’ve become acclimatised to it, although i’m advised that Wax Virgins could pop two paracetamol 20 minutes beforehand to help dull the pain, I’m super brave and just run with it…..

After 20 minutes I’m done.  Frances is very thorough and gets to the parts that lesser Waxers can’t reach and there isn’t any of the stickiness often associated with intimate waxing afterwards - in a crude little nutshell, your underpants don’t stick to your bits.

I usually leave 6-7 weeks between waxing appointments and true to form this was the case with this wax, however I did notice a slightly more ingrown hairs than usual.  This may be down to the fact that I usually have Lycon treatment and that’s what my body has become accustomed to, I’m not sure.

Frances currently practices out of the Newcastle studio Thursday and Friday and there’s a late night opening on the agenda too in the run up to Summer, for the rest of the week she’s in Spennymoor - literally covering all bases.

So, if you’re a regular waxer and can’t get booked up, have a waxing emergency or fancy trying an intimate wax for the first time, add Waxology to your list of Expert Waxers and check it out…

Lava Shell Massage

Ok Voyeurs, you know by now that I’m a fitness freak and that I don’t do things by halves.  I like to box, play roller derby and lift weights and all those crazy intense sports take their toll on my body.  If I’m not bruised and battered from boxing, then I’m grazed and bruised from playing roller derby - and that’s just the visible evidence.

I actually have a chronic condition called Fibromyalgia which has an effect on my joints and muscle groups causing widespread pain blah blah blah, it’s not interesting, nor is it something I usually discuss but I promise there’s a point to this reference and it’s kind of relevant.  Putting my body through extra stress by choosing to play sports and participate in gym classes is something I have to manage and my weapon of choice for this is massage and muscle manipulation.

There’s nothing better than waking up to a major case of DOMS and knowing that you have a massage booked to work some of the stresses away.  Lately I’ve been road testing the exotically named Lava Shell Massage at Newcastle Hair and Beauty Clinic and the benefits have been immense.  The treatment has been featured in Vogue magazine having been dubbed “the new hot stones” and it was the most requested training for Beauty Therapists in 2015.

My Therapist, Gemma, is small and mighty, don’t be fooled by her tiny stature, she certainly packs a punch and more over, she enjoys massage.  Gemma says there’s something satisfying about working out knots, although she tells me I’m literally the stiffest person she’s ever worked on and that I’m “like a rock”.  Gemma makes each Lava Shell massage bespoke to the individual - if there are areas which need manual manipulation she’ll work this into the treatment and then use the heat from the shells to soften the muscles.  The treatment also benefits the Therapist, reducing the risk of RSI - so, wins all round.

Similar in style to a Hot Stone massage but way less messy, Lava Shell massage is a type of heat treatment that uses smooth Tiger-striped clam shells as a massage tool.  Rather than using water to heat from the outside in as with a Hot Stone massage, the heat is produced by inserting a ‘lava gel sachet’ and ‘activator liquid’ into the shell and then sealed in order to heat from the inside out.  The heat is retained for around two hours, easily enough time to deliver an insanely good treatment.

If, like me, your muscles are harder than sheet metal, Lava Shell massage can be hugely beneficial.  Obviously the heat helps to relax tense muscles, but the shells also give off calcium ions when heated, these ions transfer to the skin and can help to firm and tone the skins appearance, not one of the published benefits, but a benefit none the less.

Skin is prepped with oil like in a regular massage and your Therapist will identify any particularly tense areas, (for me, that’s literally every inch).  The shells can be used in different orientations to give a different effect, the smooth surface is used for all over massage and transferring heat to weary muscles and the narrow edge is used to work tense shoulder blades and calves.

The great thing about this treatment is that you have the option of a focussed, tailored back massage, or a relaxing full body experience, it’s bespoke to your needs and less generic than other similar treatments.  It’s administered in a darkened, candle lit room, it’s a struggle not to fall asleep but if you can, it’s worth it as this is such a pleasant treatment.  If you’re a fan of massage, or if you’re a sports fanatic then this is one for you to try as it’s fantastic for relaxing and unwinding; I have an encapsulated shoulder and I’m trying to put off impending surgery as long as possible and I truly believe that this treatment is helping with that.  I’d highly recommend it for sports injuries or long term conditions, or just as a treat to yourself after a long day and a real bonus is that after having this treatment I sleep way better than I do on a regular night and it’s worth it just for that. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzz……

Pixie x

Prices start at £28 for a Lava Shell back massage at newcastle Hair & Beauty Clinic and appointments can be booked here.

There’s a cheeky discount available for Voyeurs too, quote #FashionVoyeur or Pixie Tenenbaum when you book and you’ll score £5 off a back treatment and £10 off a full body treatment - don’t say I never give you anything! (Discount available until April 16th)

Lourdes Leon for Stella McCartney

Lourdes “Lola” Leon has scored her first major campaign and it’s a doozie….

The 19 year old daughter of Madonna and Carlos Leon has carefully curated a life outside of the spotlight in a bold move not usually subscribed to by famous offspring.  Lola herself has been keen to point out that she’s in a position of risk and tries to remain grounded and level headed about it.

“I have a lot of people judging my every move, it’s important for me to not let it rule my life.”

The campaign, for Stella McCartney’s Pop fragrance, is Lola’s debut into the mainstream and felt that McCartney’s campaign spirit and ethos was largely the same as her own - anti-bodyshaming, pro self-acceptance and a general positive feeling of girl power and support.  The vibe is fresh, young, fun and above all else, positive.

“I go through this struggle myself, women’s bodies have been made so public that everyone feels like they need to comment, I just love when someone doesn’t pretend to be someone they are not.”

The message on the campaign is simple - Be True To Yourself.  It’s about being who you want to be and lola fits that brief perfectly.  Known for her fuck it attitude to fashion, bucking trends for her own take on what’s current, she’s a pretty damn good role model for girls everywhere.  Appearing bare faced in the campaign teasers in a simple white vest and looking every inch the natural model, it’s hard to believe that this teenager is the unassuming daughter of pop royalty and is studying musical theatre in Michigan whilst largely flying under the radar - not just a pretty face and a mega bank balance.

I can’t wait to see the campaign in its entirety, I’m certain Miss Leon will be one to watch, in her own right and with those brows, I reckon she could take on the world….

Boxing Clever

Well Voyeurs, slightly off topic and way shorter than the usual post that you’ve come to know and hopefully love but here goes….

As you know I’ve been boxing for a little while now and it’s something that I love, no, it’s more than that, it’s something that I need in my life.  For anyone who knows me personally, you’ll know I don’t have a regular life, not like most people do, and because of that, I need this.  I won’t bore you with all that crap but just take it from me, I need this, sport and fitness is huge to me.  HUGE.

Ok, now I’ve exhausted you with my overuse of punctuation, let’s get down to the real stuff, the reason for this post.  Basically, I have an opportunity to fight on May 6th in County Durham for charity.  It’s an Exhibition Bout and a proportion of the money raised from ticket sales will go to help support injured soldiers through the charity Forward Assist for war veterans.  Not only that, but the main point of the bout, is to give those injured soldiers and their friends a chance to get up and fight themselves in order to raise money, and awareness to the charity.

Soooooooooo, if you’re a Voyeur and you’d like to come and show your support (banners are optional but welcome), I’d love to have you there, if you’re a hater and you’d just like to see me get pasted then equally, I’d love to have you there, slightly less, but you know, it’s for charity so whatever your motivation, if you can, then come along.

Tickets for the night are £60 and for that you get a seat at an actual table rather than in a row, a three course meal (it may end up covered in blood and sweat but who cares right?) and a night of jam packed sweaty entertainment.  Plus, the big draw is that you’ll get a warm, fuzzy feeling knowing that you’re helping a real important charity.  In short; GIVE US YOUR MONEY!

Now all I have to do is lose some timber and get in shape, learn the footwork, get punched in the face repeatedly, and try not to get knocked out.  Simples.  Oh yeah, one other thing, if you’re reading this Mama Tenenbaum, yes, there is likely to be blood.  And probably bruises, but definitely blood.

If you do want to come along, just to see what it’s all about, or maybe you fancy doing something similar in the future, then hit me up with a message and I’ll hook you up.

Pixie x

FYI The children and chihuahua in the main picture will not be fighting on the night, we just practice on them in the gym.

This Girl Can Awards

Last night, the Crowne Plaza hotel played host to the Active Newcastle This Girl Can Awards celebrating women in sport across the region.  You’ve seen the campaign on TV and on billboards and the success of #ThisGirlCan at narrowing the gender gap in sport has been huge.  I’m super proud to say that I’m a part of that campaign, and will continue to be because the values fit so well with my own.

As you know, I was nominated in the Ambassador of the Year category and of all of the Ambassadors across the Newcastle region, I made it to the final three based purely on your nominations.  For that I simply can’t thank you enough Voyeurs, you’re just the best and I appreciate  every single vote and nomination that you took the time to make.  In fact, the messages of support I’ve had from you all have actually made me quite emotional which has done nothing for my reputation of being a stone cold hearted, emotionless lab, who cries on the inside, like a winner.

Anyway, back to the Awards ceremony…..

The whole affair was hosted by Lady Anna Foster who spoke passionately about the national initiative and why maintaining the momentum is so important going forward.  I turned up fashionably late wearing a ballgown slashed at the waist to make a full skirt, with a Nike gym top, Balmain belt and KG heels showcasing a roller derby kiss on my left ankle and shin - I really embraced the whole theme of women in sport for this one.  Special thanks to the team at Newcastle Hair and Beauty Clinic for rescuing my ravaged feet and sorting me out with a gorgeous gel pedicure!

Sadly, neither me nor my Newcastle Roller Girls teamies won in our categories.  The Ambassador of the Year Award was shortlisted by public vote and then voted for by the people in the room that night, it was scooped by a fabulous lady by the name of Donna Dyball who has been a huge asset at her local running club.

The awards up for grabs and their respective winners:

Club Session of the Year: Welbeck Warriors

FDA Coach of the Year: Rachel Dickens (Our very own amazing roller girl Zoe Hayes was up for this award but sadly didn’t win this year)

Young Ambassador of the Year: Stacey Gardiner

Commitment to This Girl Can & Ambassador of the Year: Donna Dyball

If you’re not familiar with the Newcastle Roller Girls.  You’re never far away from another Girl Who Can and we’re all about building women and girls up, not tearing them down, look around you and you’ll see, #NewcastleGirlsCan and we’re actually a really great bunch.

Huge congrats to Donna Dyball for winning Ambassador of the Year, Donna, that trophy will be aces topped with vanilla ice cream and for me, there’s always 2017…..
